Fourth Graders read independently in class for 40 minutes per school day and some even more! At home, they are expected to read 30 minutes (even on the weekends). At this age, to keep their reading levels maintained and increasing, as well as build stamina for the EOG's, this a must and needs to continue over spring break. To help them read without "reading" have them read recipes to you (this counts as a few minutes), turn netflix on closed captioning and mute it-so they have to read, have them read lyrics of their favorite songs on youtube-the possibilities are truly endless!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HAVE THEM READING!!! When we return it is only a little over a month until EOG's.
All fourth graders have an IXL free trial that will help them READ and practice MATH skills over break. We have created a spring break challenge for students who choose to use it. Students who complete it and return it the MONDAY after break will be rewarded.
The standards we included are standards we notice need the MOST attention, but feel free to have them do more! You can even have them take the diagnostic test so you can see where they are starting and how they grow over the 11 days away from us!
